The Gen3 prototypes Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang are on the market and being sold in original liveries by Supercars.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Ford Mustang GT were completed back in 2021 by Triple Eight Race Engineering and Dick Johnson Racing respectively and were used for testing both prior to and during the introduction of the Gen3 era of machinery.

The Camaro with Supercars Chassis Number SC-001 and Mustang with Supercars Chassis Number SC-002 are being sold following on from Supercars using team built race cars for the successful wind tunnel testing in North Carolina in December 2023 and the follow up test in January, where aerodynamic parity was confirmed.

While previous prototypes were kept long-term and used as mules for particular testing requirements, the success of the wind tunnel testing using homologation team cars means they are no longer required by Supercars.

Supercars CEO Shane Howard said: "These prototypes offer a rare chance to acquire vehicles that symbolise the evolution of Supercars racing.

“Used extensively for testing during the transition to the Gen3 era, they hold immense value as artefacts of our transformative period.

“With their distinctive sound and striking resemblance to their road-going counterparts, they provide a visceral connection to the sport's roots.

“We’ve received a large degree of interest received over the last three years about what the future has in store for these prototypes and look forward to handing them to new owners in the near future."

The covers came off the Ford Mustang GT and General Motors Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 on Friday 3 December 2021 at the Repco Bathurst 1000.

Between 2021 and 2022 there was a painstaking effort by Supercars and the two homologation teams to bring the cars to life following the setbacks caused by covid.

Dick Johnson Racing was charged with the development of the Mustang, and Triple Eight Race Engineering the Camaro.

Both the Camaro and Mustang bodies are built around a control chassis and the varying two powerplants.

The prototype Mustang and Camaro bare a close visual connection between race and road vehicles and feature a signature Gen3 V8 engine sound. From roof to bonnet, doors to windows, Gen3 prototypes share similar dimensions to the road cars they are based on.

The Mustang holds global significance for the Blue Oval. On October 6, 2022 it was the first ever race-prepared seventh-generation Mustang revealed, when the 2023 Mustang GT was uncovered at Mount Panorama ahead of the Repco Bathurst 1000 and driven that day by Supercars Hall of Fame inductee and Ford legend, Dick Johnson.

The sixth-generation Chevrolet made its racing debut at the season opening event of 2023, the first time a Camaro has competed in the Australian Championship since 1984.

Three-time Supercars Champion Shane van Gisbergen had the honour of turning the first laps of Mount Panorama in the Chevrolet Camaro Prototype on 3 December 2021.

Anton De Pasquale drove the first laps of the Bathurst circuit in the Ford Mustang.

In 2022 all Championship drivers, co-drivers and legends of the sport were given the opportunity to steer and test these prototypes before teams began their own developments prior to the racing debut.

The racing debut for Gen3 Supercars occurred just over 12 months after the unveiling of the prototypes, at the season opening event of the 2023 Repco Supercars Championship.

"This is a never to be repeated opportunity to acquire two highly significant and bespoke race cars which have shaped the future of Australia's pinnacle of motorsport", said Shaun Baker, Founder of Young Timers Garage.

"YTG is proud to be able to bring this incredibly unique opportunity to market for the very first time."
